FALL INVADERS

Be Aware of the Fall Pests in Your Home

Fall invaders can invade homes and become a nuisance throughout the winter and following spring. When seeking shelter, these insects have a habit of congregating on the sunny side of buildings and gradually move upward until they find a point of entry. They will often enter through cracks around siding, windows and eaves. Thus, a treatment in late summer will provide a barrier around those areas to assist in helping to abate the invader.

Cluster Flies

Cluster flies are slightly larger than the common house fly. These flies may not reproduce within your home but become active on warm days and crawl out of wall voids and attics in a confused attempt to go back outside.

Boxelder Bugs

Boxelder bugs are black with red markings and 1/2 inch in length. They love to feed on sap and other sustenance from boxelder plants. They move to sheltered areas (nearby houses and buildings) in the fall and remain there during winter.

Asian Lady Beetles (Or Orange Ladybugs)

As autumn approaches, the beetles leave their summer feedings sites to protected places to over winter, same as the boxelder bug. The homeowner can assist by exclusion, sealing around doors, windows, and eve, to cut down their entry points.

Salt City Pest Control will apply a fast-acting residual insecticide to the exterior of the home in the fall to prevent entry of the Asian beetle and boxelder bug.

Western Conifer Seed Bugs (Stink Bugs)

The western conifer seed bug feeds on Douglas-fir seeds and other species of pine. This bug can also become a nuisance to homeowners in the fall.
